James Joyce Annotated Bibliography Essay - 3544 Words

Joyces modernistic view of Dublin society permeates all of his writings. The Irish experiences account for a large portion of Joyces writings. Stephen Dedalus is sometimes Joyces pseudonym and represents Joyce and his life in Joyces works. Joyce plays a crucial role in the modernist movement in literature. Some of the well known innovative techniques used by Joyce are symbolism, realism and stream-of consciousness. James Joyces writings contain autobiographical matter and display his view of life in Dublin, Ireland with the use of symbolism, realism, and stream-of consciousness. Joyce was born into a middle-class, Catholic family in Dublin, Ireland on February 2, 1882 and wrote all his works about that city, even though he lived†¦show more content†¦Dubliners revolves around the everyday lives of men, women, and children n the Irish capital of Dublin and is based on real people and places that were part of Joyces life. Shortly after his mothers death, in place of Stephen Hero, Joyce wrote A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, which was based on the events of his life (Gifford 160). In this largely autobiographical novel, Joyce wrote that I go to encounter for the millionth time the reality of experience and to force in the smithy of my soul the uncreated conscience of my race (Gifford 177). Joyce appears as the character Stephen Dedalus in this book. Like Joyce, Stephen finds himself in conflict with his family, the Roman Catholic Church, and the nationalistic zeal of the Irish people. Also, like Joyce, Dedalus leaves Ireland and wishes to become a writer (www.jamesjoyce.ie). By depicting Stephen with a mixture of irony and sympathy, Joyce suggests the special importance of the artist in the modern world. Divided into five chapters, this book follows Stephens life from childhood through adolescence to manhood. We are essentially given a window into Stephens consciousness, and the whole world is unveiled to us through that single aperture. According to Sydney Bolt, no novel written before A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man can match its variety in styles This indicates Joyces originality. Popular Chainsaw Brands You Can Buy on Amazon

A survey was conducted several years ago to determine the popularity of chainsaw brands used by woodsmen users in the United States. Listed in the survey included both dealer-supported saws and big box saws sold at local hardware chains. The list also included boxed products to include Poulan, Craftsman, Remington, Hitachi as well as dealer-sold saws including Husqvarna, Stihl, Jonsered, and Echo. Husqvarna Barely Beats  Stihl One interesting observation in the survey was that dealer-serviced saws topped the popularity list. With over 3,100 votes cast, Husqvarna was narrowly selected over Stihl as the chainsaw of choice voted on by Forestry readers. Here are the percentages of preference and ranked by saw brand: Husqvarna - 41%Stihl - 40%Jonsered -  7%Echo - 4%All others - 8% Voting for a favorite saw was extremely close between the first and second place brands. Husqvarna and Stihl are by far the most popular saws in America according to this survey. Although this was not a scientific survey, these saw brands were acclaimed to be the preferred saws of the survey readership; most, if not all these models, have high ratings. It should be noted that industry competition and availability of dealers change as do these rankings locally. It has become obvious over the years that a local branded service center increases sales. Buying available service with a warranty guarantee is as, if not more important than the price paid for the chainsaw. A power tool will malfunction over time and you will need service and parts over the life of the saw, as noted by power equipment dealer Tom Bernosky in a saw industry trade magazine. â€Å"Always remember when buying any machine, buy from somebody who can service. You will only hurt yourself and your business by buying something at a mart-type store. I’m not saying you can’t buy mail order, just make sure they do the service work. If they don’t, your warranty isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on.† Tom Bernosky Latest Chainsaw Medium Power Picks For non-professional but regular chainsaw users, several models are recommended. Power models are usually heavier, have more cubic centimeters of displacement (- 40 ccs) and tend to come standard with 16 bars. These saws are primarily picked by resource managers, forest and landscape owners, and businesses who use saws regularly but are not professional timber fellers. They will cost slightly more than smaller saws and are typically on sale from between $250 and $350 each. See the top most voted for chainsaws below. Voted #1:  Husqvarna Saws Swedish company Husqvarna builds chainsaws for both the professional and casual user and is available for purchase on Amazon. Husqvarna saws are built with LowVib, Air Injection, and a Smart Start function that makes them very easy to start. All saws have mandatory safety features and offer  a variety of chainsaw for every requirement. The recommended top bargain power model  is the Husqvarna 440E Chainsaw. Voted #2:  Stihl Saw Germanys Stihl has been in the chainsaw business for over 70 years but only sells through exclusive dealerships. They have developed a slim saw form and continually develop  significant advances in saw technology. The Stihl saw has an anti-vibe technology for fatigue free operation and they claim to be leading manufacturer of saws worldwide. All saws have mandatory safety features and offer  a variety of chainsaw for every requirement. The recommended top  bargain power model  (Consumer Reports Listing)  is the  Stihl MS 180C Chainsaw. Sincere was one of the biggest watch retailer in Singapore but before dealing with the LVMH group the business of sincere was not so much good. Job analysis for an HR manager Manage the administrative function of the HR department in a very well defined manner is the main responsibility of an HR manager in the company (Stone, 2013). Job description is a list, which a person uses for general tasks, functions and the responsibilities of a particular position. Job description is developed by job analysis that includes the analysis of all the tasks which are necessary to perform the job and also includes the knowledge and skills which are needed for the job (Cheramie et al., 2014). Maintain relationship among all the people in the organization, managerial requirements and relation with other employees all are included in job description of an HR manager of the LVMX group (Lacoste et al., 2016). Job specification is a statement of a job which is included the summary of work, duties, responsibilities and the qualifications are required for the job (Delahaye, 2015). Duties and responsibilities: Development of employee relation programme, making partnership with team and create policies and update it to the employee handbook, manage employee relationship cases, these are the main duties and responsibilities of the HR manager of the LVMX group (Tracey, 2015). Apart from these, support the field team in all aspects and build a good relationship with the field team, provide training to the field team, development of boutique policy and maintain the recruitment policies and recruitment procedure in a proper way so the company can get the best employees, these all are the part of duties and responsibilities of the HR manager. Qualifications and skills: To get a job as an HR manager in the LVMX group there are some requirements which the candidates have to fill up. At first a bachelor degree is needed and in the retail industry minimum five years working experience as a human resource generalist. Apart from these the candidates should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and as well as computer skill. The candidates should have knowledge about federal and state employment and labour laws. Analytic and organizational skills are also required for this job. The candidates should have also the experience to deal with ambiguity and develop a trusting relationship with the employees and should capable to handle the sensitive and confidential issues spontaneously. The ability to build credibility with the external and internal partners should be needed. If all of these aspects are full filed by the candidate then he or she can get the job of an HR manager in the LVMX group (Goffee Jones, 2015). Job design or work design or task design, it is the core function of Human Resource Management (Dwivedula et al., 2017). The specification of contents, methods, relationship of jobs to satisfy technological and organizational requirements and job holders social and personal requirements, all are related to the job design. How the job affects the job holders attitude, behaviour, characteristics and autonomy, all are taking consider into job design (Marinova et al., 2015). Improve job satisfaction, reduce employee problems, and improve the quality, these are the aim of job design It is a process to design or arrange the work place, products and systems so that they fit the users without any difficulties (Young et al., 2015) In LVMX the job responsibilities of HR manager are matched with the criteria which are needed for the recruitment of an HR manager. The knowledge and skills of a new recruited HR manager is matched with the duties and responsibilities. So the person can do his job very efficiently and day by day he becomes more and more efficient. So the efficiency is related to job design (Freund, 2015). It is always assumed that main motivator is a good payment. But it has seen that the employee motivation is also depending upon how the job is designed (Parker, 2014). Commitment to the organization, absenteeism and turnover all are related to job design. The responsibilities of an HR manager in the LVMX group are very distinct. But if the external and internal environment of the organization are not in favour of the organization then it is very difficult for a new recruited HR manager to do the job spontaneously. Employee grievance, communication gap between the management and employees, these can create a big problem for the HR manger and the manager cant concentrate on new recruitment, from starting the manager keeps busy to solve those problems. On the other hand if these problems do not exist in the organization as a big issue then the HR manager can do the job perfectly and be motivated to do it more efficiently. Safety and health Safety and health of the employees are the most important part of job design (Bakker Demerouti, 2016). All the aspects of job design such as job rotation, working hours, work break should be maintained in a good manner so the employees physical and mental health are not being damaged. In the LVMH group there is present employee health insurance for all the employees from management to the lower level employees. Selection strategies and implementation Growth of the LVMH group is the main objective of Human Resource team. Thats why the selection of Human Resource manager should be done in a proper way. Selection of the right employee is very crucial for any organization. The Human Resource department of a business house mush choose some strategy for screening the candidates and then choose the right person for the job. To choose a Human Resource manager the Human Resource directors of LVMH has chosen some steps and strategies. At first comes the education qualifications of the candidates and then the skills and ability. The selection process starts with job analysis and creates a list of job specifications, within which the required knowledge and skills are mentioned. To get the job the candidates must full fill those criteria. For an HR manager job the candidate must be graduated and should have knowledge about labour laws and must have interpersonal skills. The candidate should capable of decision making. Multistage selection strategy is one of the useful selection strategy to get the right person for the right job. This selection strategy is the combination of some assessment tools which are the part of this process. The Human Resource department of the company ensures that the assessment tools are legitimate and these are related to the requirements of the position. The different stages of multistage selection strategy are skill test, personality test, personal interview and performance on sample work, on the basis of performance the best candidate is selected for the job. Another selection strategy is conjunctive selection strategy. In this strategic process multiple assessment tools are used in a series of stages. If a candidate performs poor at the initial stage then he is eliminated from the list of applicant. The order of the assessment tools must be arranged very carefully so that any candidate does not eliminate due to less importance for a particular criteria. The main advantage of this strategy is, it is less costly than other strategies. Compensatory is also an effective selection process. In this process the company administer all the assessment tools at the same time to the candidates, before anyone is eliminated or selected by the company. The scores of all assessment tools are combined together and the results with composite scores are published and depending on these composite scores the best candidate is selected by the company. In this selection process the candidates are not eliminated on the basis of single test, all the candidates should perform all the tests and then the composite scores of all the candidates are compared to each other and then the right person is selected. But this selection strategy is costly than the conjunctive selection strategy. Apart from these selection strategies sometimes it is seen that an eligible candidate from the organization is promoted to the Human Resource manager post. When an employee is working in the organization for a long time and he gathers the experience and become eligible to match those criteria for the HR manager post then he is promoted to that post by the organization. Conclusion For the successful business of LVMH group the Human Resource department is very important. The HR manager is taking an important part for the selection of other employees and maintain a healthy environment in the organization. So the selection of HR manager is the most essential issue for the organization. Through a well-defined strategy the right person for the job can be selected and then the business can run spontaneously. References Bakker, A. B., Demerouti, E. (2016). Nothins Gonna Stop The Flow Essay Example For Students

Nothins Gonna Stop The Flow Essay Nothins Gonna Stop the Flow?Yo, do you like these I asked Damian. He was sitting on my bed, disinterestedly watching me model half my wardrobe in front of the mirror. He shrugged, tendrils of smoke creeping from the corners of his mouth. ?I guess.? As he spoke, a huge plume of smoke leapt from his lips, filling the room with a sweet smell. ?Lemme get a hit of that,? I gestured towards the glass pipe. He handed it to me, and I quickly lost interest in finding the right pair of pants. ?You like this I asked him, nodding towards the stereo speakers. Jungle beats were pounding from them. ?Yeah. Did you mix this ?Nah. Chris made it for me.? I returned the colorful bowl to him. My hands, now empty, began to flow in sync with the music. Soon they were dancing in circles around me as my feet led the way. I watched myself in the mirror, satisfied with my bodys response to the music. Damien watched approvingly, moving his head in response. ?You gonna go to Burst tonight ?Im waiting for Chris. Hes supposed to spin later, but if he doesnt call me, I think I might just chill on the corner over by Nicks.? ?Well, Im gonna go pick up a 40 and head down to the park up on 218th in a little bit if you want to come along.? ?Nah. Im gonna hang around for Chris for a while, but I might stop by later.? ?Alright, cool.? Damien stood up to leave. ?Later,? he said offering me his hand. ?Later.? I joined hands with him and patted his on the back as he made his way to the door. I returned to the mirror almost immediately. I continued to dance in front of it, completely stoned, for what seemed like only a few minutes. By the time the phones ring interrupted my movement, I was already starting to sweat. ?Yo.? ?Whats up It was Chris. ?Whats up ?Ill meet you on the avenue in twenty minutes, and well jump on the bus.? ?And then take the 7 I asked. ?Yeah. Thatll leave us right by Palladium.? ?Alright, later.? Chris and I hung up. I picked a brightly striped shirt off of the heap of clothes on t he side of my room and flung it over my sticky shoulders. I pounded down the stairs, ran into the bathroom, and squirted a gob of gel into my hair. Blond spikes poked up in all directions. Perfect. I grabbed my wallet off of the television in the living room and sauntered into the kitchen while tucking it slyly into my back pocket. ?Dad He was sitting at the kitchen table, going over some papers from work. ?What He reacted sharply, as always. ?Can I borrow, like, twenty bucks ?Twenty dollars He questioned me as though I had asked for a thousand. ?Yeah.? ?Where are you going ?Chris house.? ?And when will you be home ?I dont know. Whenever.? ?Hmm, I see.? He paused. ?And why do you need twenty dollars to go to Chris house ?I owe him money.? ?For what The questions were killing me. ?Dad! Can I have the money or not?!? I threw my arms out at my sides. He got me so frustrated, I couldnt help shouting. ?My wallets on the television.? ?Alright,? I sighed, relieved that our conversation was over. I walked back into the living room and located his wallet above the stereo. Unfolding the worn leather, I counted the bills inside. Forty-six dollars. I plucked a twenty and two tens out of the creased material and tucked them into my pocket. Hed never notice. ?Goodnight, ma!? I shouted upstairs. She was probably asleep anyway. She had a lot on her mind these days. I walked outside and was greeted by the sounds of my neighborhood. Police sirens wailed nearby, I could hear the baby next door screaming, and the barking of dogs could be heard coming from every tiny, chain-linked yard on the block. I walked quickly down the street and ducked into the bodega on the corner. I picked up a 40 and walked up to the avenue while discreetly sipping the cheap malt liquor from a moist brown bag. I met Chris at the bus stop. We talked little during the ride. We took the 7 train after the bus trip, and we didnt end up at Palladium until almost an hour after we had gotten on the bus. ?Public transportation sucks.? I complained to Chris. ?Whatever. Were here now, right We got on line behind kids in big pants and drag queens with pink high heels and shiny makeup. Oversized brightly colored clothes, multi-colored hair, tight mini-skirts, exotic headgear, and freakish clothing marked the eclectic mix of individuals. After a few minutes of standing on line, I neared the ticket booth situated at the main entrance. From the door, I could hear the bass pounding like industrial machines in a factory. I paid fifteen dollars and joined the party. As I entered the vicinity, darkness devoured me. I was greeted by chaos. The bass shook my body. Teenagers swarmed about. Some danced, and some screamed to each other in an attempt to talk. I could see kids sniffing little bumps of powers off of their hands and swallowing colored pills. Smoke wafted about, drawing surreal pictures in the air. I knew what I needed. I saw a tall guy in the corner slipping things in and out of his pockets an d shaking hands with kids he didnt know. He was the man. I made my way through the crowd to him. ?How much I asked. ?Forty.? I slipped the three crumpled bills Id stolen from my dad into his hand as he dropped a bottle of clear fluid into my outstretched palm. I nodded and turned away. With my drugs tucked safely into the folds of my pocket, I decided to voyage upstairs. I felt like I was entering some foreign galaxy as my feet floated up the lighted stairway. As I climbed, my body became illuminated. I was brought back to reality when I reached the second floor and stopped to investigate the scene. Before me, throbbing with lights and sound, was the main dance floor. The massive floor was dotted solely with pulsating lights. They were organized into specific color combinations and swayed hypnotically to the mesmerizing music. The floor looked artificial, yet it was incredibly beautiful. I admired the dance floor for a while, but then I proceeded further upstairs to find Chris. ?Wha ts up I shouted over the music. He was sitting down, and I chose a seat next to him and joined him. ?Whats up. You get the *censored* ?Yeah, yeah. Some guy downstairs had tons of stuff. Yo, hes gonna get busted. You remember when the took Mike into the back room that time I asked. ?Yeah, they took all his money and stuff. That was so *censored*ed up.? ?I know. They busted me for selling K one time at Vinyl, too.? ?Yeah ?Yeah. But they didnt do nothing. They just, like, told me not to sell anymore bags. And I was already done anyway.? Pausing, I relaxed into the chair and looked around. I noticed that the top floor resembled a movie theater. The seats rested on an incline and faced two screens in front. Psychedelic images were being projected onto the movie screens. ?Look at the screen. Thats crazy.? ?Whadaya think Ive been lookin at while you were downstairs Chris asked. ?And look down.? Looking down, I noticed our feet were immersed in darkness. Toward the side, I noticed that we w ere directly above the main dance floor and we had a spectacular view of the mechanical functioning of the lights. ?Thats dope.? ?Yeah, I know.? ?Wanna smoke now I reached into my jeans and pulled out the corncob pipe I had grabbed from my room earlier. I handed it to Chris. He packed a dust bowl and returned the empty bottle to me. He raised the pipe to his lips and sucked in a mighty breath as he held a flame near the top of the bowl. His cheeks caved in and his eyes widened as his chest expanded enormously. ?Nice hit,? I said as he handed the pipe back to me. I raised the pipe to my mouth and struck the lighter. Almost simultaneously, Chris exhaled a plume of smoke. The smell of the dissipating cloud was eerie and unnatural. I took a huge hit. I was instantaneously lit. I looked at Chris and uttered, ?Whoa.? He just nodded blankly. All of a sudden, the chaos that lurked about violently infiltrated my brain. I was perplexed by the simplest of notions. My body grew numb, time ebbed slowly, and space became distorted. The screens in front caught my eye once again. An elliptical mix of disturbing images that included sex, cartoons, and computer-generated graphics dashed by. Pictures would quickly flash on the screens in rhythmic coordination with the booming bass. I had to get up. I had to move. I was already making my way downstairs when Chris looked up. Id find him later. I headed towards the dance floor. By this time, it was congested with people. The crowd bounced up and down in rhythm with the heavy electrical beats. I heard sounds that I had never heard before and was put into trance. I found an open spot and joined the waves of bodies. The music engulfed me. I was cut off from everything. Though I could see the crowd, nothing else existed besides the electronically produced beats and me. I could see them and taste them. They were juicy. Every distorted beat I grabbed, I pulled toward me. They soothed my body in a way that was somehow therapeutic. I was s urrounded by music. I reached out to touch the sounds, and they moved me. My environment was ill-consorted and my body became ill-contorted. I tried to produce a visual image with my body for each new sound that I heard. I became digitized. Quantum light flew by me. I flowed between it. Bursts of energy shot from my body. I became electric. Lasers produced by the high tech lights shot all around. A massive wall of televisions at the front stage flashed computer graphics. Data flashes blasted around the dance floor, and, occasionally, the stroboscopic lights took control of my body. After an hour or so of dancing, reality and fatigue slowly leaked into my mind and body. I exited the dance floor overheated, dripping in sweat. The drugs were finished, the money was spent, and Chris was nowhere to be seen. The night was over. ABRAHAM LINCOLN One of the Gre Essay Bibliographyoriginal paper by alexa liguoriCreative Writing
